TROOPS of monkeys have been "pillaging" several villages along Jalan Parit Hamid-Parit Botak in Batu Pahat over the past two years.
The primates not only steal produce from orchards and vegetable plots but also foods from kitchens.
This has caused some 10,000 villagers to shut their windows and doors most of the time to avoid further problems.
Measures taken to tackle the monkey menace, including setting up traps and shooting the animals, have proven futile since there are too many of them.
It is estimated that there are at least 4,000 monkeys in the area.
One possible reason for their large presence could be their natural habitat was destroyed to make way for agricultural project.
The monkeys have invaded Kampung Parit Nipah, Kampung Parit Bingan and Kampung Parit Londang, also my Kampung..Lapis Semarang.(Johor buzz) By M
